about

DIVINING RODS formed in the Summer of 2005 while Chris Newman was serving time at VOA Mens treatment center in Portland, Oregon. Mark Nelson, former guitarist with Napalm Beach visited Newman in early 2005 while being incarcerated for drug possesion. There they planned to form a band with Roach on keyboards and Louie Samora on drums. Adding Joe Wickstrom on Bass, they rehearsed on weekend release passes and developed a sound and a set list that excited the group calling themselves DIVINING RODS. By the time Newman was released they had put together a killer album entitled, LOVE LETTER TO THE DEAD, based on the relationship that had been born that year between Newman and Denise Marie Hackett, former friend from Seattle and the Punk rock music scene that began in 1980 Seattle.
Denise found Chris through his former Portland record label and wrote a heart felt letter pleading with Newman to get off the drugs and the streets of San Fransisco and continue his music once again, as she had found recovery from the streets of Los Angeles. Bringing him to tears when he read the closing sentiment,"You will always be My Jimi Hendrix".
January 2006 the guys booked 4 days at Smegma Studio to be recorded by Mike Lastra.
Meanwhile Denise and Chris began a fairy tale romance that culminated into Love Letter To The Dead and a year later, KEY OF H.
Divining Rods were born, lived, and died, leaving behind a passionate love story and an incredible two records.
